Moscow Mountain Trails

The Trails

Private Land
Public Access

Almost all of Moscow Mountain’s 60+ miles of trails are on privately owned land.  We have access to them because of the generosity of the landowners, and our relationships with them.

We’ve got a simple ask: keep that in mind when you’re out there enjoying the mountain.

Rules of the Trail

  • No Motorized Vehicles
  • No Fires
  • No Target Shooting
  • Be Considerate to Other Users
  • Respect Trail Closures

Early morning views from the Mountain. Sub-freezing evening temps are keeping Balsam Route snow covered. There has been enough foot traffic to pack the road and trail sufficiently well. Hoping for snow this weekend!!!Image attachment

Please come to the Moscow City Council meeting, January 17 @ 7PM to show your support for some new local trails in the City of Moscow

MAMBA has been working with the City of Moscow to develop an agreement to build trail on a piece of city property on Moscow Mountain, near Moscow Mountain and Rock Creek Roads.

The current proposal includes two downhill (one technical, one flow) and two uphill routes.

Moscow City Council will vote on this agreement in their meeting tomorrow AND whether to provide a $5k match for trail building. If you can, please come to show how valuable outdoor recreation is to the community.

Trail conditions update and sorry, it aint great.

Today Balsam Route was about 25/25/50 dirt/ice/snow and could be 33/33/33 by the weekend.

Please be mindful of your impact if you choose to use Moscow Mountain trails during this time. Riding or walking on muddy trails can damage them them, leaving ruts, contributes to erosion, and uneven, hard-to-fix trail surfaces.

What happens to trails during freeze-thaw cycles?
- As the snow melts, it leaves puddles
- The saturated ground freezes at night as the temperatures dip
- Water expands as it freezes, blowing up the compacted trail soil

If you are leaving a visible rut or footprints, the trail is too muddy to travel on. Help us spread awareness and encourage everyone to be considerate trail users. We want all to enjoy the trails!

While we have scaled back grooming on the south side of the mountain due to warmer temperatures, there are still opportunities to play in the snow on the north side of the mountain. Exciting news from the University of Idaho Experimental Forest!Image attachmentImage attachment
